The election is over. This fact has been firmly established. The election process was long, painful, and ugly. Nasty things were said by both sides about the other. Looking at how people voted, the population of the nation was divided pretty evenly between the two candidates. The whole thing has left a bad taste in everyone's mouths, whether the won or lost.
Personally, I'm left wondering one question: why?
Why is it, that every four years, people subject themselves to these trials? Okay, yes, I get that running the country is one of the most important jobs in the country. Thing is, it's also one of the worst jobs in the country.
Before you actually get in, you have to run for office. You must be willing to invest hundreds of hours of your life that you will never get back. You risk social and financial ruin. People will be making humorous, unflattering, or even outright slanderous comments, all aimed at you and at your expense. You and your family will be under close observation, and if anyone does anything stupid, it is no longer simply an embarrassment - it's a major news story!
And if you do somehow make it into office, you will promptly be blamed for everything wrong with the universe.
As president, you will be expected to clean up the environment, restore the economy, repair the nation's crumbling infrastructure, create jobs, represent the country on the global field, and just generally cater to the whims of the hundreds of thousands of citizens in the country. The hours are long, the pay is relatively low, and the working is exhausting. The overall stress of the job will most likely cause premature and rapid aging.
Everything you say and do will be studied and evaluated. You will be mocked and criticized at every turn. Oh, and don't count on the support of the people who voted you into office - they'll turn on you in time. Your approval rating will slowly drop over the course of your time in office. Yes, there will still be people who support you, your actions, and your decisions, but with each passing year, that number will be diminished.
Good luck.
