Say What?

A few weeks back, I had a hearing test at work. It was nothing too grand; I sat in a small booth, wearing a pair of headphones, and whenever I head a noise, I pressed the button. When I got the results back, I was a little put off by what I found out: I have some hearing loss in both ears.

This isn't especially surprising; when I was at MATC, I was regularly working next to loud machines, usually without any ear protection. And - trying to stay positive here - I can still hear things. I just have trouble hearing higher-pitched sounds.

It is a troubling thought, the possibility of losing my hearing. It has become more troubling recently, as I am having problems with my right ear. I sleep wearing ear plugs, which causes the earwax to sometimes become impacted. Normally, I take ear drops for this, but the ear drops I currently have are expired as of two years ago, almost (just a few more days and it will be two years exactly). I bought a new bottle of ear drops, and hopefully that will be more helpful.

How often is it that we take something for granted? That we do not fully appreciate what we have until we no longer have it? How many wish they could go back and do things differently, now that they see the fallout of their actions, and the losses that ensued?
