I went out for a walk this past Sunday. The weather was pleasant (certainly milder than the heat wave we endured the week before), I had time to spare, and I felt like getting out of the house for a while. I didn't walk anywhere in particular; I just took a long, winding route through the neighborhood, making it up as I went. I made turns on whims, trying to walk down or up streets I haven't traveled before, or at least not recently, or in that direction.
It was a pleasant walk. For a time, I was able to just let go of the world and my troubles, and just BE. Everything else just...fades into the background. It will still be there, waiting for me to finish, but it is letting me finish before bothering me once more.
I take walks such as this when I can, or at least when the mood strikes me to do so. All too often, I am busy or tired, or the weather is sub-optimal (rain, snow, extreme heat/cold, etc.). As such, these walks do not happen very often, which makes them that much more special, that much more important.
How well do you know your own neighborhood? What decorations adorn the lawns around you? How many birdbaths are there, compared to statues of animals, or sundials? Is there a particular house that stands out, be it due to a striking color, or perhaps unusual architecture? How many flowers have been planted on a single block?
Trust me, it is worth going out and having a look around.
