Open Locked Door

I gave myself a real scare less than an hour ago. Put simply, I left the house for a time without properly locking up. I wasn't gone for that long - twenty, maybe thirty minutes. A quick search of the online catalog system revealed that my local public library had a copy of a movie I was interested in seeing. A quick drive over there, I get the movie, a quick drive back. Simple. Except when I got back, I found that while I had locked the door before leaving, I had failed to fully shut it. I was able to open it just by applying pressure, no key necessary. The next few minutes were spent walking through every room, knife in hand, checking for intruders. Thankfully, there weren't any, and I have since calmed down, more or less.

I am fairly sure that there is some proverb about how a locked door is useless if standing open or something to that effect. If there isn't, there should be! There is definitely a lesson to be learned from all this; several, really. If you're going to do something, do it right. If you're going to do something, do it all the way, not just halfway. Safety precautions put in place are meaningless if they are not used.

I'm not sure what else to say so I will say nothing more.
