On Writing

I recently started a journal/diary/log book/whatever. It's nothing too impressive, just a spiral-bound notebook, and every day I write something in it.

Partly, it a way for me to write and to keep writing. If you want to get good at something, you have to do it. A lot. This is an easy way for me to keep in the habit of writing. Admittedly, I could work on blogging more, but the problem there is a lack of material. When I write something for an audience, I want to make something worth reading. This requires careful thought, revising, and editing as needed. I don't want to be like a member of the teeming masses on social media, who fill cyberspace with meaningless chatter and inane babble.

A few of the entries I've written so far could pass for blog entries, but most are just short pieces about how my day was, and the problems I've been having sleeping. (I've been having a recent bout of interrupted sleep.) Maybe it will be published someday, maybe not.

I want (and try) to have entries in this blog be long and thought-provoking. Something to entertain, and something to think about. Am I successful? Maybe, maybe not.
